Come On, Rise Up - crank up the volume

My money is on Asbury Park coming back.
Once known as the Duchess of the North Shore I see good things happening.

    Nice slide show, Emil...!! I also hope that AP can make a comeback. Besides "driving the circuit" when I was of that age, I remember even before that, driving around and around with my parents as a young child in search of the ever non-existent parking space (back in the 1960's)!!! Let's keep our fingers crossed.

    It's already happening! Went for a walk on the boardwalk Sat nite...lots of folks there, strolling, riding bikes, going in the shops, eating in the restaurants, having ice cream....what are you waiting for? Come on down and support the local economy! Some things may be gone forever, but Asbury lives and will be awesome again!!

    It is happening! My family and I love AP...spend most of our weekends walking around there! Emil, we have similar shots. How could you not take these beautiful pics of such a beautiful place?!?!? I cherish everything old in Asbury.

    I love Asbury and grew up with my grandparents taking me there as they lived in Bradley. I thought I shot some beautiful images of the Convention Hall, the new stores along the new boardwalk and noted that my money is on Asbury.
    Regarding the Casino I spent lots of time there as a child and could not ignore its deplorable condition on the video

    Great video! Oh the memories! Going on the rides as a kid, going to Convention Hall with my grandfather, high school dates, concerts, summer jobs, bar hopping over summer breaks...the list goes on. Thank you!

    That is wonderful Emil!!
    It brought tears to my eyes, but it also gives me hope that AP will make a comeback. I've been afraid to go back for years, in fear of what I will see, thinking it best to let the good images just live in my memory. But maybe this is the summer for a trip back. Thank you Emil!!

    As a child, my parents used to take us to Asbury on my birthday to ride the Carousel and reach for the brass ring. I got it one time and thought I was rich!! (Didn't want to give it up in exchange for the free ride.) I was so upset when they auctioned off the carousel horses so many years later.

    I really hope Asbury does come back. Unfortunately, you can't successfully rejuvenate unless you also get a handle on the crime. As a former resident of Asbury, I saw it and was a victim of it first hand. I really do hope they are able to come back.

    Anyone remember the concerts at Convention Hall? I saw Led Zepplin, Joe Cocker, Yes, Rod Stewart, Mountain, Grand Funk Railroad, Jefferson Airplane and countless other acts there in the summers in the late 60's - early 70's. How about the Sunshine Inn? I saw Deep Purple one night when KISS opened for them. WOW, What a show!!! I also worked on the boardwalk at Bubbleland for Mr. Fountain and down at the Palace a few years. Great memories. The Grand Olde Lady of the North Shore will come back again to her former Glory!

    Took a sroll with the family on the boardwalk & then stayed for dinner & the firewrorks on the 4th of July. It is sad to see what was there but it is GREAT to see things being re-built & changing in a positive way. There is mini golf, a small water park for the little kids, glass blowing & pottery shops, vintage shops with things from nostalgic candy to furniture, great food, fantastic music, & LOVE the parking system they put in. Go visit!

    What great memories for someone born in AP (Fitkin Memorial)grew up in southern NJ (Woodbury);spent most of my time in OC--now in Michigan pining for a return visit to the Jersey Shore! I do remember VERY well riding the Carousel at the Casino as a kid and fervently hope you and the Boss can keep up the focus on bringing AP back!

    Excellent slide show, Emil! I was just there and was just reminiscing about the rides and where each one of them was. I also would love to see the return of the carousel at the Casino. What's a boardwalk w/o one?

    Lived in Asbury Park for 28 years in one of the old Victorian houses. Every yr the firemen from the firehouse on Park Ave would measure how much my sisters and I grew. We moved twice after that, but still in Asbury Park. Our family belonged to the 7th Ave pool and we would sneak into "The MonteCarlo" pool to go off the high dive. I remember the circuit and the cheesesteaks @ "the Wonder Bar". My first job was at the "Berkley Sweet Shop" a kid could work at 13 yrs old back then for $1 an hr. I also worked at the "Mafair Theatre" with the moving cloud ceiling.After I graduated college I worked @ Steinbach as an asst buyer..........My grandfather on my mom's side was an architect with his office on Madison Ave and he designed the Asbury Park high school football stadium. My grandmother on my dad's side had a little family run butcher and grocery store on Comstock Ave. I miss the circuit, the cocerts @ Convention Hall and walking the boards barefoot in the summer. I wish I had the financing to open my own shop there now!!!

    Great memories of Asbury....my folks used to ride us down the shore on a bus out of Newark, as we didn't have a car in the 50's. Sun and Sand, the Carosel with the brass ring. What a blast for a kid

    THE CIRCUIT!! Summer nights, buddies all piled into my '66 Chevelle, racing light to light... Round and round. Checking out the babes. Music from the rides on the boardwalk. Smelling the salt air. Down Kingsley, past the Pony, back up Ocean Avenue and around the Berkeley-Carteret. WNEW-FM on the radio. Don't bogart that joint! Memories...

    Drove over to the AP boardwalk one recent warm November night on the weekend and the bars and restaurants were packed. Great to see it. Now that I live nearby (Monmouth Beach), I've walked on the boardwalk several times during the warmer days. Lots of other people doing the same. Good to see that too.
